3 upgrades cleared at the gate. They were also offering $1000 to take a red eye flight not that night but the next day (and proactively saying they'd put you in first class). Not much interest. Oddly in the end I heard the flight attendants say they had empty seats, though maybe they were mistaken.

On the return flight 330 today they didn't clear anyone at the gate and the flight went out with an empty seat in first despite around 8 people on the upgrade list. Guessing the Cleveland gate agents don't know how to process upgrades, especially since it's rare that Alaska doesn't upgrade people in advance. Odd that they didn't clear people in advance on either of these flights but maybe it's a 4th of July / Summer travel thing so that they have more first class seats available for rebookings or vdbs or something. Thankfully I had used a GGU on this one when I booked. I did report it to customer care since I would have been pissed if I was #1 for that seat.
