I use an inexpensive Swiss Gear 21" carry-on, which I've had for something like eight years. It fits in the Southwest overhead bin, wheels in, and has a lot of capacity, even without unzipping the expansion gussets. It has multiple compartments and pockets for organization, and the wheels are pretty smooth. Mine is an older model that has two in-line skate wheels, but the current version has four spinner wheels.

Thanks. That looks like it fits the bill. One question. I last had a canvas suitcase and it sat out in the downpour deluge on the apron and when I got to my destination everything was soaked and water running out the bag. I guess that's why I should carry on
