Not the case (eg the Grand Hyatt in Seattle, as mentioned by the OP).

2020 that would make a travel focused company desperate enough to get cash flow that they’d offer a small discount on gift cards…
I define LA as Los Angeles, Orange County, Long Beach, Valencia, and Westlake Village for Hyatt purposes. The Andaz is just overpriced and definitely not worth the cash or points rates, with the very bad reviews. Tommie is in a very bad location and just not worth Cat 4, especially with the exceedingly small rooms.
As for selling Gift Cards I believe my words were “if I had to guess” not fact, just an opinion as to where it would be most likely that they would be sold.
As for the 2020 GC sales they did run this same promo a couple times prior which wasn’t forced by COVID that was just the most recent one. Considering it was offered prior to that as well I see no reason not to offer it again especially with the pitiful promo offerings.
