It happens from time to time in some countries of origin. I for instance can never get my BP when I’m leaving CMN to CDG, same from PVG. I would however usually get a checkin confirmation that I can print (that’s not a BP though).
I only saw the “speak to an agent” once though, when my ticket was unconfirmed after a change (due to an error of the help desk when I changed my flight the week prior)
Where are you flying from?
In any event, if you feel something is dodgy, make sure to go to the airport with a printed confirmation and ideally your e-ticket number as well (having it on the phone is fine, but a printed version will make it easier for the checkin desk agent). Try to be there early enough so that *if* there is an issue, you have enough time to sort it out.
(in our case, the checkin agent told us we didn’t have a valid booking for that flight, so we ended up having to call the PLS to sort that out in front of the desk - hopefully nothing as complicated as that in your situation)
