Don't use the chat agent. They're useless. Call in. I just had this 3 days ago when I flew into SGN. I called, the DL rep gave me the VN PNR and then I was able to manage my booking as a guest. The chat agent might have misunderstood what you wanted. Worse case scenario is that you'll have to call the Vietnam Airlines call center.
After forever on hold got a phone rep who put me on hold forever again then came back saying they found it but it was the same unusable string the chat rep gave me. Doh.
