I think the Zipair 787s dont have built-in entertainment screens either. Norwegian and Norse haven’t gone that far - yet.

The truth is that long-haul low-cost hasn’t worked all that well anywhere. Norwegian went bust, AirAsia X is a shadow of its former self and essentially a mid-haul airline. Ancillary revenue is the big driver of LCC’s income. An A320 in Europe can do 6-8 sectors a day, thats 6-8 x180 chances to sell. An A330 will do 2, maximum 3 sectors in 24 hours. Thats 377 x 3 = 1131 scratch card opportunities, compared to 1440 chances on short haul.

Some reckon that long-haul doesn’t work because people want a bit more comfort on long-haul. Those people are found on non-stop services in premium economy or business. Fundamentally nobody has worked out how to disrupt the long haul market in the same way because the opportunity to massively increase efficiency just isn't there.
