I had no experience with the Chase United Club card. However, my experience applying for the JPM Reserve was also "manual" as you described, as was the underwriting process, taking several business days to be approved.
Also, in getting the JPM Reserve and requesting United Club membership through the card: within a few days of my emailed request, my PB contact said I would be able to enter United Clubs as he had gotten it done, and that I should expect to receive the United Club membership card in the mail in a few weeks. Funny enough, I had a flight about five or six weeks later, and I was able to enter without issue, though there was absolutely no evidence of that United Club membership on my United account online, nor had I received anything by mail up to that point.
It took another month or two to see anything online or physically, yet it appeared the Club membership was active, just as I was told.
