If that is one way, US$1000 is not particularly low cost. LAX-HND is almost exactly the same distance as LAX-LHR, and with AARP discount the BA LAX-LHR fare is about US$1400 each way, including baggage, food, drink, lounges and $170 worth of Avios at Emerald level.
