When flying east to west the travel times can confuse. You can get on a plane in Europe at noon and arrive in the U.S.. at, say, 3 pm. It looks like 3 or 4 hours rather than 6 to 8 hours.
Yes, I know people who insist that westbound transcons seem shorter simply because they don't "lose" as many hours upon reaching the arrival time zone, even though the flight itself is often 1-2 hours longer than going eastbound due to prevailing winds.
