There are some guidelines on Right to Care costs, but it's down to what is necessary and proportionate. Alcohol isn't formally allowed (they sometimes let a glass of wine slip through). Extra but necessary travel costs, that you would not have spent, are in scope, along with wifi costs. There is an underlying assumption of using public transport, but sometimes taxis are ok, depends on the circumstances, and taxis are allowed to hotels. When it comes to "how much" questions I usually say "spend whatever you would spend if it was 101% BA would never refund it. Then claim anyway."
Thank you. I gather I am qualified to apply for the EC/261 compensation for the full amount as it was a transatlantic flight. I've browsed around and can see that I can begin the application process on the BA website Customer Service/Complaints and Claims. Before I do so, I do have another question. Is the EC/261 compensation separate from the individual food/beverage/transportation due to the cancelled flight, or if I apply for the EC/261 (apparently for the maximum amount of 600 euros or 520 UK pounds) that will be treated by the airline as the compensation regardless of any individual expenditures due to the delays?
I don't want to risk applying for both and end up having somehow voided the EC/261!
