I went ahead and PC’d right at the first anniversary to get Priority Pass/Gold status and early access to the travel credit. If you don’t care about that, you could wait like the other person and PC right before that 2nd anniversary so you’ll defer paying the annual fee until then.
Edit: I see where my wording was confusing, I product changed right at the anniversary mark which I assumed many people do so I will receive my 85K certificate at the 1st anniversary with the Ritz but if you product change later, you’ll still get it at the anniversary of opening the Boundless (I believe)
Thanks! Already have PP from several other cards, and Plat status both organically and from the fancy Amex so don't need to time those... There is potentially one practical difference on the airline credit though, which is if you can do the PC before end of year, but not get the AF until after end of the year, you'll theoretically have one extra $300 airline credit with no additional annual fee available to you over the life of the card.
So for example if we go by other saying it takes ~3 months for the new AF to post, and I PC in November 2023...I get to use a '23 $300 credit, pay the AF in say Feb. 2024 and also get a $300 credit in 2024 to use.... then in Jan of 2025 I'd get a third $300 credit available to use--- and still have time to close the card without paying another annual fee.
In contrast if I waited till my 35k cert posted in February 2024 to PC, then have the new AF show up in say May, I'd get the $300 airline credit for 2024, then another available Jan 2025... and NOT have a 3rd one available if I closed it within 30 days of the 2nd AF posting May 2024.
Not that I have plans to close the card, but seems PCing it (or opening it in cases of cards where credits reset Jan 1) there's a worthwhile timing thing to get one extra dip of such credits over the life of the thing.
