Then I called AC's concierge line (I'm a SE member with AC) and explained the situation (reminder that this was an AC ticket and the two LH segments are AC codeshare flights), the AC agent was able to select a seat for me on the outbound LH segment without charge. Later, I received an automated receipt e-mail from AC showing that the seat selection would have cost CAD31, but that it was somehow waived with a
"AO_TRAVELING_WITH_TOP_TIER" code and "AASFREE" as the form of payment.
Don't know whether the LH agent was right and AC worked some unique magic here, but if so, it feels dumb that LH won't allow any free seat selection even for fully flexible economy and premium economy fares.
Curious did they offer to do your inbound too? You mentioned you had two LH legs but only said that your outbound was done by the Concierge.
I’m in a similar boat as an AC SE and booked in Latitude B across 4 LH segments on a 014 ticket. If AC is absorbing the charge I highly doubt they’ll let me (and my AC*G wife, and my daughter) pre select on all 4 legs as that would be 12 seat selection charges! That said… maybe they will. I’ll try the concierge and report back…
edit: just called the concierge… for me the response was that it was LH operated so “their airline, their rules”
While I appreciate that it isn’t a *G benefit, I am somewhat surprised that a fully refundable B fare wouldn’t map over to allow complimentary seat selection.
Given that it is a fully refundable fare it does mean I might just go find another routing and Lufthansa can lose my money for this sort of nickel and diming…
