There are no other middle seats left and the only window seats remaining are next to the toilets in row 1. We would have been in row 11 on the BA777 so one window and one aisle but not great seats in the B777 "dormitory". I have never been a fan of the "ying/yang" seats so, despite not having a window, I think that the middle pair and reduced cabin density will be fine for a daytime flight. I wouldn't want to swap to a different BA flight and probably end up in the old CW seats but I have never flown AA in J and would be grateful for opinions on whether I should check out the possibility of a flight change. I assume the Wet lease AB flights will depart from LHR T5 and that AA would fly from T3 at LHR but still land at the international T5 in ORD. I am concerned that requesting a change to AA could result in us sitting in middle seats on AA metal anyway, depending on how full the bookings are already, or possibly seated apart. Can anyone say whether there is any advantage in flying AA over AB? In particular, what aircraft types fly LHR-ORD and what is the AA T3 lounge like compared to T5B (our preferred T5 lounge). I would be grateful for opinions.
To answer some of your questions;
AA fly 787s between LHR & ORD. The seats are akin to BA club suites but no door. Some of the middle seats face backwards and some people dislike that but the window seats IMO are very nice.

Yes they fly out of T3. The AA lounge isn’t great but in J you’d have access to the Cathay business lounge, BA lounge & Qantas lounge so arguably a much better lounge experience.

Personally I’ve come to prefer flying AA J than BA J. Yes some of the flight attendants get a reputation for being surly but I’ve always found them pleasant if you engage with them. The service is usually quicker & the food choices more varied than BA. Their IFE is usually decent too.

Why not look on aa.com at the dates you’re due to fly & do a dummy booking & see what seats are available on the flights before you ring BA.
