Does it make any difference if I mix BA and QR flights on one ticket

Looking to fly from LHR to SE Asia later this year.

Starting the itinerary with a BA flight to DOH is cheaper than QR all the way, but I was wondering if this increases the risk if the LHR - DOH flight is late:

does it make any difference whether I purchase the ticket from BA or QR?
if the BA flight is delayed and I miss the QR connection, who do I see about re-booking?
