most Accor hotels in Asia do upgrade you to suites if you book the room category one level below suites but not from standard room or lowest category.
(but not sure about Banyan Tree or Fairmont as I have not stayed there yet but talking about the common brands in Asia)
I had three times last year a two level upgrade and in all other cases one level
