I recently flew CGK to BKK in J on Thai. Out was a new type seat, fairly enclosed with a cubby hole for my legs. Single seat by the window. Return was old fashioned layout, 2 2 2 across the cabin.
I preferred the old layout; the cabin felt spacious, my legs were free and the seat slightly larger and more comfortable.
I find the much praised QR J suite seating claustrophobic and cramped and the door an unnecessary gimmick. Its contribution to privacy is minimal. If you want privacy on board an aeroplane fly F on Etihad (A380 may be discontinued now but all F seats were cabins with full height surrounds so you were alone).
I suppose what I am saying is that they are all good in their way and if it’s your first time in J/F then you’ll be amazed (and never travel long haul in Y again). Don’t overthink seats!
