I have friends here in the US who are part of a large family that owns shopping malls and hotels including a number of Hilton franchises. They are worth several billion dollars and all fly economy on all business travel. This applies to the bosses as well as the more junior staff.
Everyone is entitled to their own preferences/eccentricities. Doesn't mean it's automatically acceptable to foist them on other people.
