I totally agree with you, and I think that neither SBB nor LX have any way of knowing whether or not I took the train just based on the way tickets are checked on SBB trains. The only problem I see is proactively telling LX I’m not taking the train by asking to check my bag to my final destination which could be problematic, so I will avoid it.

Exactly, but luckily LX Air Rail says the train ticket is valid for all connections on the same day, and it even says it’s valid for up to one day after arrival of the flight. In theory, if I were taking the train, I could take it at any time during that day or next, not necessarily at the specific time that LX gives on the ticket.
