I can certainly think of scenarios where it would be useful (like I paid with an eCoupon and want to use the funds immediately), but I'm pretty sure that's their logic.
One little trick I've used is to buy a Flex ticket for a speculative trip near the end of the billing period on my VIP card, in order to reach the next $5,000 spend threshold and thus get another 1,000 SQM. Then, cancel & rebook the ticket as PY or whatever when I have total certainty about what that trip will be.
Helpful when trying to hit a threshold award or status upgrade sooner.
Ideally I could just load up this AC Wallet directly so I can manage my budget on a schedule of my choosing.... maybe someday.
