Third, some screeners "suggest" everyone take off their shoes. This eliminates any descrepancy as to the interpretation of the policy regarding criteria. Fourth, from 5 to 7 feet away how accurately can any person determine the height of a shoe sole? Fifth, some screeners like to have everything go through the xray machine. Unless we start mandating everyone remove all shoes, (which is not the case) There will be discrepancies with the shoe policy. You dont have to take them off! IF you dont, and dany of the above apply, you will get sent to have further screening done, but you still dont have to take them off! Unless they alarm the hand wand or they alarm the ETD machine!
As far as profiling an individual goes, that is a no no. We are not allowed to send pax to secondary based on anything that has to do with Race, Religious attire, sex, age or appearance. So we cannot develope a profile system for sending people to secondary and thus getting rid of the shoe carnival.
Mommy, my job is SO HARD. All those different shoes, they confuse me. Waaaaaaaaa. How can anyone tell how big one inch is? And those mean, mean passengers don't want to take their shoes off -- I'll show them by sending them to secondary. Waaaaaaaaa. Mommy, make them obey me so I can keep them safe from Richard Reid. Waaaaaaaaa.
