I guess I had not paid attention to the post that mentioned it was a rebranding of the The Venice Hotel. When my ride pulled in I was caught by surprise... I had stayed at The Venice a number of times years ago. The valets even wear the same gondola outfits from years ago. LOL!
Main floor seemed to be in great shape... either renovated or well-maintained. Front desk staff was courteous. English was OK... not great, but good enough. As a Diamond Ambassador, I had booked a "King Premium Window of the World View". I was expecting an upgrade, and eventually go out of them that I was getting an upgrade. It was a suite, but it was really an older, smaller one. On the website it's called "1 King 1 Bedroom Suite Living Area". Not one of the newer renovated ones... in fact kinda old and worn. The pictures of the King Premium I had booked looked nicer than the suite, and might be closer to some of the nice pictures shown in an earlier post in this thread. I went back down to discuss with them and the discussion was a little difficult; it didn't translate well. I was trying to show them pictures from the website. I either wanted to downgrade to my original room, or upgrade to the next. I was showing the King Premium, and then the renovated King Suite. They eventually decided to upgrade me to the suite, and the pictures are below. It was a nice suite. So as far as rooms, I'd choose the King Premium over their older King suite, but the newer King suite was great.
There were a few electrical problems in the room... TV's and coffee makers weren't working. They fixed the next day. Towels and linens were really nice. Water pressure good. Nothing really to even nitpick about in the room... except the light controls! OMG, it was a lot of work trying to figure out how to turn off the lights in the room!
I think they have three restaurants. One for breakfast (maybe serves dinner?) and a second sorta that gave cafe-sorta vibes. Cute. Large outdoor patio area. It would have been really nice to sit out there -- even given that it was a little warm / humid -- except for the mosquitoes! Small menu, with limited wine choices (as is often the case in China). The breakfast place had a really nice spread of food. Didn't look into the third restaurant; but I could see from the outside; it looked like an upscale place. In all cases the staff was really friendly. I was a little surprised, however, that they did not seem to know where the OCT Harbour restaurant area was located. HSBC ATM in the hotel... convenient.
Area was good. The hotel is very near the MTR station. Unfortunately not many nearby restaurants open in the night. There is a park near the hotel that was great for running. A little hilly, but wooded and peaceful.
I'd stay again.
