On Friday (12/24) it was snowing in KY, OH and many DL flights were delayed or cancelled. However, in my departure city the weather wasn't bad. Other airlines were operating normally. My DL flight was cancelled due to cancellation of the incoming flight the night before.

Delta cites "weather" and refused to endorse the ticket to another airline. This resulted in a 9 hour delay.

I think that's just greedy not to put me on another airline (some other airlines had seats, most of those flights arrived on time or early). My flight cancellation was only indirectly related to weather. Its cancellation was due to unavailability of aircraft.

Isn't this evil? Recourse? Anyone successful in writing a letter? If so, what did you get? (voucher? miles?)

This kind of behavior causes me concern because the reason I don't fly low cost carriers is because some of them force you to stay with the airline for the ticketed journey, no matter what. If DL starts to behave like this, why stay with DL?
