Did they just randomly give you that upgrade? I'm an Avis "President's Club" member, and I'd prefer an SUV in South Africa, but the extra cost of booking one is high (like 2x) with all the agencies.

FWIW, I'm going to be in Cape Town in a few months and, as a Globalist, looked into staying at this hotel. I think I'm going to pass. The only part of town I liked the last time was Sea Point. In general, like most people, I don't like South African cities very much. South African hotel prices are not expensive now so I think I'd rather stay where I want to be, and that's not downtown Cape Town.
