So, I'm a GCH and my brother (25 years old) are flying from LHR - SKG in ET this week.
Basically, there was a young adult hanging off an overpass. He went to help. Once the police arrived - and when running to get them - jumped over a fence and managed to ruin his knee - quite a few hours at A&E later - turns out it is a nasty meniscus tear. Good news is that everyone was safe at the end.
Anyway, he's on crutches with no weight to be applied to the knee. Steps involve an inelegant bum-shuffle.
Being the caring brother that I am, I thought I'd request accessibility help for him
- when requesting assistance (see attached screenshot) you have 3 options, I've requested option 1, but maybe this was a mistake since it could involve stairs?
- if he is long walking distances, a wheelchair would be better. But I thought heathrow would provide these? Why do I require to state I have my own mobility aid?
- are crutches allowed in the cabin?
- do I just turn up at the first wing with him and they'll manage it from there? (I assume I can still use the first wing security?)
- I've perfected arriving as late as possible for flights (100% success rate) - any advice on delays related to waiting wheelchair assistance would be appreciated - what is reasonable to build in? Is it more convenient to just hobble ourselves? Best case would be if I could just borrow a wheelchair and push him myself!
- Any experience of what to expect at SKG? Obviously, there is a balance here - he isn't that immobile - but a wheel chair would help if we have long distances to travel.
