Pretty good 2-night stay during dragon boat weekend. Originally reserved for Sun-Tues but due to a scheduling conflict with the person we were meeting in Hengqin, we pushed our visit up to Sat-Mon. Rate went up just 2 USD per night (from $80 to $82) and also required a non-refundable reservation, I am assuming due to Dragon Boat weekend. However, considering the low rate and the comp suite upgrade we received, I guess the hotel wasn't full. It's quite large...just under 500 total rooms, with 50-something suites.
Received a welcome email from the Club Lounge manager the morning before our arrival, who advised we were being upgraded to a suite. This was the first time I've been informed of an upgrade prior to the day of. She also asked for our arrival time and number of guests (odd since all 4 of us were listed in the reservation). I had also noted in the reservation that it was my birthday (a few days earlier but close enough) and they actually asked me if they should decorate the room for me haha. I declined, stating I was more than happy with just the suite upgrade. My wife found it hilarious that they basically asked me if I wanted to surprise myself with decorations. Anyway, my only additional request was for a rollaway in the suite.
Although we would be arriving late in the afternoon, around noon I received an email that our suite was ready. After checking in at the FD, we went to our room to find the rollaway already neatly in place. Suite is very large, though the layout forces quite a bit of wasted space so it's good that they're so spacious. Our suite was on the 8th floor which is well below the top floor (I forgot, maybe in the low 20s?) but the views for now are probably nearly identical as there are no nearby buildings of any significant height. Nice suite, excellent modern aesthetic and functionality. A powder room off the living room and a large master bath left nothing to complain about except that the shower and bathtub were in the same section rather than separated.
Fitness Center is nice and new but middle of the pack in terms of equipment offerings. Outdoor pool is pretty nice (was packed on Saturday, a little less so on Sunday, pretty empty on Monday) and they even offered an indoor pool with lifeguard for what appeared to be more serious swimming, although I guess kids are allowed in as well. There is a Camp Hyatt kids club that is quite phenomenal as well...we were allowed to explore for free since we went to check it out during their last 45 minutes open. Pricing started around 10 USD for full day entry and up for more organized activities. We did not return though after being informed that we must stay with our kids the entire time.
Regency Club is nice. Extremely spacious and way more than what was necessary for our time there. I would ballpark a capacity of maybe 150 guests comfortably. Well-designed and decorated. Offerings are extremely meager during the day, but cocktail hour service is solid. Not equal to the best I've seen, but not too far off. Rotation of about 5 hot dishes, a noodle soup bar, and then the usual cold cuts, salads, sandwiches, etc. Self-serve full liquor bar.
Breakfast is served buffet-style in the downstairs restaurant. The lounge does not open until 11 so that's not an option. Breakfast is quite good if you like Chinese food. Again, not the best I've seen but it holds its own. The variety is almost on par with the GH Kuala Lumpur. The area lacking may be in international staples, which are slightly less in quantity and quality than other places. Sunday morning breakfast was an absolute madhouse. Monday morning was much better. Little to no change in the food offered.
The only complaint from our stay was the fact that the water for the tub (there's the main fountain and then an attached showerhead) could not get adequately hot for a very hot bath. The shower, otoh, did get hot and its showerhead could be used to fill the tub. So that's what we did. Maintenance came to take a look, agreed that it wasn't working right, also suggested to use the showerhead from the shower, and said that if that didn't work well enough then we should call them again lol.
Despite requesting no housekeeping at checkin, housekeeping stopped on the first morning to check on us. After I said we would not need any cleaning, she asked about coming back in the evening. I explained we would not need any cleaning at all until we checked out the next day. She genuinely seemed confused that we wouldn't want any housekeeping whatsoever.
Also, when we returned to our room the first night, a birthday cake along with candles and a lighter were placed on our living room table. Very nice touch. It was a really tasty cake too (my wife saw it for sale in the bakery for 80 CNY). I appreciated the candles so my fam could sing happy birthday (and so the kids could blow them out for me...they love that)
All-in-all, a very excellent stay and perhaps will be a place we return to in the future. We absolutely wouldn't hesitate to go back if we need to be in the area. That said, I really can't say much about the location. We never really wandered off premises on our own so I can't say much about what is available adjacent to the property. It does seem like it is poised to be an excellent location as the area continues to grow, and in terms or our needs, everything we went to was between 5-10 minutes drive away, which I guess without knowing much seems good. The area is poised for a ton of growth and apparently has some major family entertainment destinations nearby, so this will be a good property to keep on radar, either as a family-friendly hotel or one for business conventions as the area grows.
