Last trip to Europe a couple of weeks ago and was asked for my passport in Budapest and at both hotels I stayed at in London but it was promptly returned to me (I don't believe any of them took copies). All hotels under either the Marriott or Hilton flags (Courtyard, DoubleTree, and Marriott)
