if you can see the top of Washington monument you should be able to see the fireworks. I just didn't like the tree cover at Long Bridge - could not see the Washington Monument. But since there was signage that the parking lots at Long Bridge would be closed 7/4, is an indication it is a popular viewing point.
there are hotels in crystal city where you can see the monument ou of bedroom windows or from the roof.
there is a bike path/ walking trail that runs along George Washington parkway thst you can get on at DCAnd Arlington cemetery stations. That is the Mount Vernon Trail, also easily accessible from the Crystal City (National Landing) station.
there are boats you can get on and see them.
the fireworks usually starts around 9 pm and runs for about 40 minutes
post Covid they are restarting the national symphony orchestra concert on the steps of the Capitol ( aired on PBS nationwide). They do a full show rehearsal on the 3rd that crowds can attend. You have to go thru security and sit on the steps or on the lawn facing the Washington monument and you can see the fireworks go off on the 4th. I am thinking of extending this to a two day staycation and go see the rehearsal.
