I have an upcoming trip on IAH-TPE round trip purchased with $ in Y. I am completely new to the EVA program, but I saw on EVA's website that it is possible to upgrade Standard and Up economy fares to Royal Laurel for 58.5k-70k miles one way on this route.

First, how far in advance can the upgrade be requested? Is upgrade availability as scarce as pure mileage redemption tickets, or is a mileage upgrade possible as long as there are unsold seats? Once the upgrade is paid with miles, is it a confirmed seat or simply a waitlist?

I currently have MileagePlus linked on the ticket. How can I change this to an Infinity MileageLands number to be upgradeable with miles?

I ask about the availability of mileage upgrades and confirmed seat status to see how realistic upgrade awards are. As I will be transferring over points from Capital One, it would be a shame to have them stuck in EVA with no redemption possible.
