Induced? Into booking replacement travel on other airline

So, this is going to be a longer one. But I registered for an account t just to understand if this has happened to anyone else.

My wife had a Sunday afternoon flight canceled out of LAS to SEA on 4/30 and I found out about the cancelation at 9am via 430am email. I had booked the flight for her with my miles so I got notifications. I sprung into action and got Delta on the phone quickly and tried to change the automatically rebooked flight from 630am (connecting in SLC), to something later that day or on another airline, since those agreements exist.

Delta rep confirmed the cancellation was Delta's fault (crew) and not an Act of God or other situation they were not in control over. I was researching other flights online and found an Alaska Airlines flight going to Paine Field (PAE) later that day and could get her into the region so she could take an Uber home (son was sleeping and i couldnt go pick her up) .

Important to note, we have a <1yr old son who needed to be watched the following day, and I have work at a new job and my wife was off, so she was going to watch him and we had no backup options at that late in the week.

i asked Delta rep to book that flight, and referred to the agreements between airlines to rake each other's passengers in instances like this. She confirmed the agreements exist, but that that flight was showing on her available inventory to use.

I ask if I can be compensated for the flight on Alaska and she said I should submit the cost for reimbursement. Importantly, she does NOT say that Delta does not reimburse flight costs on other airlines.

Fast forward to this weekend. $75 ecredit and $47 in reimbursement is sent via email to my wife, so I get on a call with a Delta rep again, except this time it's a supervisor. I ask him why isn't there a full refund for the cost, and he says it's Delta's policy not to reimburse other airlines flight costs, even if it's Delta's fault the flight necessitating the additional costs was canceled.

Ergo, all reps should know that Delta does not reimburse other airlines costs, and I should not have been told to try and submit the costs for reimbursement. what does Delta get out of this, they dont have to take my wife and could use or sell the seat she had tk be rebooked on, and they don't reimburse us; double win.

So, my question is this. Has anyone else had a similar situation? Because I feel like I was fraudulently induced into getting the ticket because the rep caused me to believe it would be refunded when they knew, or should have known it was Delta's express policy to NOT reimburse under those exact circumstances. This feels scammy to the highest degree.
