How is this different than the current system? I can't imagine that Alipay is going to eat MC interchange fees from foreign affinity cards. Some merchants will, of course, but mom-and-pop businesses won't.
Coming back to this, what I'm thinking is that both MC and Alipay have agreed to some concessions to get this to work. For example, MC may have offered (or been told) to partially subsidize interchange when used through Alipay in exchange for an exclusive arrangement.
