Which (not great) Star itinerary would you choose?

Due to a last-minute change in my schedule, I may have to choose between two not-great transatlantic connection options on Star Alliance carriers, and I'm wondering which of these options is the less-bad option:

Option 1 (EWR-BOS-FRA-XXX): EWR to BOS on United, 5.5 hour layover in Boston, connecting to BOS-FRA on Lufthansa, 1 hour layover at Frankfurt, before LH flight to final Schengen destination.
- Pro: We'd arrive at our final destination about 2 hours earlier than option 2.
- Cons: The 1-hour connection time at FRA; it's been years since I've flown through there, so I don't know how do-able it is, given the need to go through passport control and security on the connection. This would all be a single ticket, so I should be covered in the event of a delay, but LH's next flight to our final destination wouldn't arrive until much, much later that day (assuming that there are seats on that one). The long BOS connection would also be annoying, but I'm less concerned about that.

Option 2 (EWR-CDG-BRU-XXX): EWR to CDG on United; 2:15 layover in Paris, connection to CDG-BRU on Brussels; 3:15 layover in Brussels before SN flight to final Schengen destination.
- Pro: I'm more comfortable with the connection times on this one.
- Cons: This option gets us into our final destination two hours later than Option 1.
- Uncertain: I have no idea how do-able a UA-to-SN connection is at CDG in 2:15, given the need to go through passport control and security and the fact that CDG is an outstation for both carriers, leaving me in a more difficult situation if something goes wrong.

Other factors for consideration: This would be booked as a single ticket, in economy, and I no longer have any status on Star carriers.

So, which of those would you choose?

In both cases
