If the time in TYO is less than or equal to 24 hours, it is a transit, and thus this would be a one-way award. You might want to just search JFK-HKG instead of using multi-city, if you can get the availability. Otherwise, call.

If > 24 hours, this cannot be redeemed as a single award. One-way award does not allow stopovers, and this is not a round-trip.

I don't think this is the right thread for this question, though.
