Things didn't get off to a great start as I had to ask for a pre-departure drink (from a choice of orange juice or champagne) due to boarding later than most in Club World.
Menus were handed out before takeoff.
After takeoff, service commenced with a bar service - and as with all service in Club World these days, this was hand run from the galley. My G&T was served with packaged nuts; it's time BA returned to ceramic dishes for these.
Lunch trays arrived with the pre-placed bulgar and carrot salad for everyone, and my chosen starter of roasted sweet potato salad, which was uninteresting and too similar to the side salad. The Portugese red helped a little. My requested sparkling water turned out to be still.
For my main course, having had the cod before, I went for the braised beef cheeks. Despite being disastrously presented, these were quite tender and flavoursome. I couldn't find any sign of the advertised French beans or asparagus.
I had to prompt the disinterested crew to clear my bread plate and bring appropriate cutlery as my two chosen desserts of (warm) chocolate pudding and the fresh seasonal fruit were delivered. The chocolate pudding, whist tasty, could've done with some cream or ice cream, whilst the fruit was laughably basic.
A peppermint tea concluded the lunch service, served without biscuits or chocolates. This and some empty glasses were however promptly cleared as I freshened up in the washroom post-lunch.
Afternoon tea was served around 90 minutes prior to landing. The default of non-vegetarian sandwiches were automatically served. Whilst the sandwiches were slightly stale at the edges, they were flavoursome. The cake was delicious, as was the choice of warm plain or fruit scone served from a basket.
A decent enough catering experience on the whole, let down by indifferent crew and my personal poor choice of starter. There were no hot towels at any point during the flight.
