Yeah it's mostly the specialized field smaller conferences that occur year after year in the same location during prime tourist season, say Hawaii or Arizona in Feb/March where I've seen the deepest discounts off prevailing rates. Like $300 - $400 on rooms going for $800-$1200 to the public. I guess it's all negotiated years in advance though. I don't know how it works but suspect the rates are offset by industry sponsors?
