I'm guessing your situation is similar, but you have AC SE agents who can pull some strings.
If I wanted a seat assignment, I had to pay. FWIW, the prices that SK quoted (~€65) were significantly higher than LH (~€15 for the cheapest seats).
Just absurd. Airlines nickel-and-dining the cheapest Economy fares as part of an 'unbundling' strategy is nothing new. But doing this to Premium Economy or flexible Economy fares for supposed alliance or codeshare 'partners' is such poor form.
