Yup. At MHT this past summer, I even had a supervisor ask me to stop for a moment so she could show the screeners how to identify Dr Martens shoes by their trademark yellow stitching. (Docs are generally metal-free.) To be sure, this was before TSA enacted stricter shoe policies.

SEA is, of course, a notorious shoe carnival airport. Even before the current shoe policies, I only made it through there once wearing shoes (the Docs). All other times, I was been secondaried for declining to remove low-cut athletic shoes or the Docs.

I've only gone through DTW security once, and that was before the new shoe rules... they had no problem with the Docs.

IND was also a "no problem" airport... in fact, it was a TSA screener there who told me about Docs being metal-free.

Anyway, since the current shoe policies went into effect, I've given up on trying to wear shoes through security, since information on this forum suggests that my athletic shoes, Docs, and dress shoes are all "profile shoes." Now I wear a pair of thin-sole black sandals that I picked up at a swimwear store. I've never been hassled about the sandals... even when I got SSSS'ed at SEA, they let me keep them on after the wand failed to alarm while passing over the sandals.
