Was in the lounge yesterday, first time for me post-renovation, so wanted to post some thoughts:
  • Got to see both breakfast and lunch, since I arrived at 11 and they switched to lunch at 11:30. Food, while in general not as good as I would hope, definitely better than pre-renovation, both in quality (to an extent) and selection - glad to see an expanded area for buffet (even if not as great, as say, DEN)
    • My wife (wasn't with me this time) will be glad to know that as a vegan, there are a couple of options, which is more than before. Oatmilk with coffee, so she can actually have that now. I think there was something in the breakfast, and definitely a vegan cabbage rice dish (didn't try) with lunch
    • The spinach salad was very simple - mostly greens, dried cranberries and dressing - but pretty good - had some farro salad as well - that was there for breakfast, and also lunch
    • Breakfast I had some heirloom tomato egg dish - which didn't have much flavor - so nothing to hate and nothing to love. Oatmeal was unmemorable. potatoes extremely greasy. Cranberry tea cakes (only in buffet by new side) were pretty good - they also had a smoked salmon frittata, and cookies by dessert area (which were decent), some sort of turmeric shot and I think a mango desser. New side also had a variety of fruits, but no hot food. Also some iced tea, OJ and I think one other juice?
    • Lunch there was chicken (large wings in new area, thighs in old, but I didn't try), a pineapple tofu dish (new side), Margherita flatbread (new side - pretty good), I think another tofu dish (old side), Honey Heat 'Brussel Sprouts' (old area, per sign, but was actually broccoli, lol, but was good), steamed cauliflower (old side - blah - exactly what I'd expect unseasoned steamed cauliflower would taste like), salad bar, and same desserts from breakfast
    • Coffee machines on new side were both not working - but by entrance were (which was better than my last pre-renovation visit, where both coffee machines by entrance were out of order, but since those were the only ones, it was drip coffee only)..
  • When I entered, app said it was 'almost full' so wasn't sure I'd get in - but was welcomed in on entry - at that point, old area was pretty full, but new side was almost completed empty - it was pretty busy everywhere by time I left a bit after noon. In fact, line at desk to get in at that point, and they were setting up the 'wait list table' downstairs as I left - this is a definite improvement, as in past, I found there was always a wait after, say, 7:30am, but not sure how much of the ability to enter in morning now is a result of expansion vs. new guest policy
  • A couple of wierd things I noticed:
    • Can't understand, especially given the long hallway between the two sides, why they have such different things at buffet in old vs. new area. I get that the new area doesn't have as big an area, but you'd think it would be a smaller selection of same items. At breakfast, also not sure why there was no hot food on new side - it was just fruit and those tea cakes (which, to be fair, are probably the best breakfast item in the lounge, but I digress).
    • In the men's room, there are two stalls, but on completely opposite sides of the bathroom. Now, I imagine there is probably a reason for this - maybe existing infrastructure they had to work around - but I thought there was only one stall...its know the other is there unless you know it is
    • probably just bad luck, but coffee machines always seem to be out of order when I'm there - but at least there are now so if one set is down, at least there is another
Also pleasantly surprised to know the lounge is now open until 11 - last time I checked on the app - maybe a week or so ago it only listed 9. I'm booked on UA1 in a couple of weeks, so good to know there is a place to sit for a bit. Curious to know if anyone knows what might be out there in the later evening hours. Though I'd like to think evening would be less crowded, I'm guessing with the slate of UA (and other) red eyes out of SFO, it will probably be as busy as during the day.
