I was expecting as OWE to both be allowed one extra checked bag (it's always been that way in the past) but I've having just checked MMB it says 2 bags for me and only 1 for my companion. Is it just another glitch?

A data point: oneworld emerald members cannot select extra legroom seats for companions on the same booking. Therefore, I wouldn't be surprised if it means that you are only allowed 1 bag for your companion. Does your companion have status?

Generally, I have found Cathay Pacific to be quite generous at the desk and I have gotten away with all sorts before. I'll send a PM to avoid 'giving away the tricks' that will some people take advantage of.
