Why should an airline be anything else but a method of getting from A to B at the right price? Trying to win the approval of a tiny tiny minority of passengers makes no commercial sense. What the general public actually want or would pay for is far more important.

That is not true. Passengers in the bygone era could have only dreamt about the comfort we can enjoy not only in first class (where it is still offered) but even in business class. There were no flat beds in the bygone era. Try flying in a WTP seat passed off as a 'first' class seat.
