Perhaps go for it, but have a later Avios flight booked for £17.50 and a few Avios. If nothing too valuable / important in your checked baggage. it'll always get home even if not with you right ?
Thanks, all. Hand baggage only so at least that's one thing I don't have to worry about. BTW, it's all the fault of the bods in accounts who have just nuked my long-standing pattern of long QR flights from assorted distant Xs to Doha, 26 hours at the Interconti Beach in Doha to regroup, then onwards home via a European city. Multicity QR J (e.g. LHR/PKX/DOH/AMS) plus connecting BA AMS/LHR, tends to be significantly cheaper (£2000+) than a straightforward QR J LHR/PKX return (even with Interconti thrown in). That additional European sector adds a few hours but I've gladly done it to save £2,000+ for my employer. Alas, beancounters have now prohibited 26 hours at the beach (which also gives me a better choice of onward flight times to Europe) so the outcome is no beach and potential tears in AMS.
