Yes, points all the way here. I don't think the base rooms at the GHT are worth more than ~$300-350/night. Don't know if the current insanity is the "new normal", but if it is, I'm kissing the GHT goodbye unless in the mood/need to use points. My go-to these days is the HR Yokohama which is perfectly fine, with bigger rooms and good service. Downsides are no pool and somewhat of a hike to certain parts of Tokyo. But for under JPY 20K I'll take it.
Pent up travel demand I think. Give it a few years and hopefully it comes back down to reasonable levels. During Covid I paid $210 USD a night with the exchange rate being so good and their availability wide open. Then used a suite upgrade award. Silver lining of the pandemic. I miss those times price and availability wise. Tokyo is full of gaijin again these days. Glad I left!
