They didn't - the flight was cancelled - but that's the point: they entered a contract to fly the passenger to PRG and they knew the inherent risks and liabilities of not delivering that service whereas this ruling puts them on the hook for any number of other costs because an entirely different entity did something they have no knowledge of.
The liabilities are set in the EU legislation - alternative transportation to PRG and eventually a compensation. But again, they only apply to a trip to PRG, not any random following flight that the airline never sold. There is no contractual obligation for Eurowings to transport the pax to BKK, when they purchased a ticket to PRG.
