As a born and raised Floridian, I let out an audible cheer when reading your post. Maybe not the response you were looking for, but that hotel employee was speaking truth. I *felt* that.

Coming from this same perspective - someone who was raised in the tropics basically - I kind of shrug at this thread overall. Growing up, we kept a spotless house (no indoor shoes, no eating outside of the kitchen / dining room, etc.) and still would have palmetto bugs, roaches, ants, various reptiles, you name it. I am guessing based on the type of property ($500 / night with a resort fee) that this hotel is in a tropical location. There are some places where nature simply cannot be conquered. I'd probably take the 10% and move on
