I did, yes. I just put in my hotel booking as my "invitation" originally, but got denied and they said I needed an actual letter. I found a gentleman at Indus Holidays that basically allowed me to book a one-day tour for $100 with pickup at the border, a tour of the old city that night, transfer to my hotel, another half day tour in the morning, and then return to the border that afternoon. I was trying to just visit as a day trip from Amritsar, hence the short turnaround time. But either way, the invitation process was quick and painless.
