I have a big dislike of almost every east coast North America (including YYZ/YUL) - Europe flight, basically for this reason. Whichever cabin you're in, I've never found an airline or crew which was proactive enough to either design the meal service or get it completed quickly enough.
Now my preference is to eat in a lounge before departure and go straight to sleep. The added "value" of a SK meal is far less than the added value of an extra hour asleep.
