Flight interruptions are problematic, especially on lesser traveled routings. All of us FF feel your pain.
I think we all get a little complacent because most flights go as planned and we don't have plans B, C and D in mind in case they don't.
In the last couple of years DL is trying to steer everyone to use the app or go online to rebook on alternate flights selected by the computer. More convenient for DL but not always all of the options available.
Talking to a real, live elite line agent could help, especially if you have some ideas about alternate bookings on Sky Team carriers. Websites like Google Flights and SkyScanner can help construct some weird itineraries that might just get you there. The chances of success this way are down these days but it doesn't hurt to try. Some agents know how to back door things to make them happen. Good lick.
