My wife and I have enjoyed a modest number of ryokan stays over the past 15 or so years. Usually, two stays of 2 nights each during a two or three week trip. One time I did do both 2 night stays in a row (so 4 nights total in a row) and in all honesty it started to get on my nerves a bit (needing to specify exactly when you wanted breakfast, etc.)
Even though my wife and I love the ryokan experience as a whole, we did not grow up eating 3-hour gourmet Japanese meals, so, to be honest… by night 3 I just wanted a cheeseburger. As magnificent as the food is and as fabulous the presentation... we just found it a bit overwhelming for 4 nights in a row. Finally, a night or two sleeping on the floor is sort of OK, but I don’t really enjoy sleeping on the floor

(my wife however had no issue).
But it is still a great experience, and I will do it again, but not 4 nights in a row. Speaking for me only and just throwing it out there in case it hits a nerve.
