Like I said before, it was ridiculous on LIM-LAX. I think half the plane were just coming back from the inka trail and everybody had obvious overstuffed carry-ons and backpacks.
As I originally mentioned, this is one where LATAM could make money. They literally open your bags and inspect the contents before boarding at the door of the jetway, it would take a second to weigh or put the bags in a sizer before approaching the tables where they inspect the bags. That would save time for the people inspecting contents too.
But it may not save overall time, and may cost time, with the people who then have to take the "necessary" items out of their bags (passports, medications, electronics) and also insure there are no lithium batteries or other impermissible cargo hold items in the bags.
