So far I'm having a different experience (thankfully) than most people here but I have just arrived. I almost cancelled but stayed to get the badge and ended up adding a 2nd night because it was so cheap compared to anything else tomorrow.

I'm pleasantly surprised.

1) I was upgraded in advance to a platinum suite. I actually really like the shape and size - fun and funky with 2 full bathrooms. For NY, this is great. The fee is only $400 USD for the suite if I paid tonight, which is less than the Hyatt Centric standard room that I just stayed in. This one is much nicer and roomier. If I needed a suite for family reasons, I'd absolutely pay $400 usd for this. It's a full suite with separate living room and bar area separated by a door. It's a full suite.

2) furniture is a little old (not all the plugs work) but for the price and size, I'm quite happy for now. I can overlook the slight aging. It really is not an issue. Reminds me of the quality that the Thompson midtown was when it was just about to lose the Meridien Parker badge.

3) staff all super friendly. I called in advance with some questions and met the FOM upon arrival. The FOM told me I'd enjoy the room he gave me, and he was right.

4) there are no cups, coffee, spoons anything in the room which is very weird. It's the only hotel room I've ever been in that doesn't offer any drinks or even cups. Odd. Very odd. I bring my own tea with me but there is nothing I can use to make tea... I also brought yogurt but no spoons so I had to go to the restaurant to ask for one

5) gym is not in the hotel. I'll go there later but hopefully if it is a full gym where people pay, it'll be nice. If so, I don't mind walking the 12 mins to get there they said it'll take.

6) I'll try breakfast tomorrow. Hopefully decent. But the dinner food in the restaurant where breakfast is served looked good. Place was stylish and happening.

My guess is I wouldn't like this place if I got the regular room as they seem very small and that's what most reviewers seem to have gotten... But since I got upgraded, I am very happy w the size and space. If w family, I'd come here if I could guarantee a suite.
