I usually wear my Nike running shoes when traveling. In seldom cases, my Doc Martens.

I'm kinda surpirsed about the European airports. I have never had issues with CDG, having flown out of there at least six times since the US Shoe Carnival started. In fact, my Doc Martens went through just fine there last month (and LIS, same Docs). Nobody else was stopped to remove shoes at CDG or LIS. Same thing with AMS, FRA and LHR.

MUC is the only airport I have had to remove my shoes (and the attitude of the profiler...didn't like the autographs I had in the back of my passport, told him to talk to my Government). That was in 2003.

After clearing Customs, MSP was shoe-friendly last month.

IAD used to be shoe-friendly, but they make everyone remove them after clearing Customs as well.

DEN and SEA are the worst (on another SEA note, I went through there yesterday, discovered the WTMD I usually go through is not as sensitive, my belt works just fine now).

EUG is inconsistent. About every other trip has me removing them.

ONT and SMF are in carnival mode too.

JFK (UA) has been shoe-firendly for awhile.

Canadian: YYZ, YHZ and YOW are shoe-friendly. Though YYZ has the boarding pass fetish.
